Who’s eligible
If your driver’s license is lost, stolen, or damaged/destroyed, you can get a duplicate license online.
You can’t request a duplicate driver’s license online if:
- Your name has changed since you got your last license. Learn how to change your name on your driver’s license.
- You are not a U.S. citizen. Please make an appointment to request a duplicate license in person.
- You have a drive-only license. Please make an appointment to request a duplicate drive-only license in person.
- You have a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Please make an appointment to request a duplicate CDL in person.
How to
Step 1: Gather what you need
- Your first and last name exactly as it appears on your current driver's license
- Your date of birth
- Your street address
- Your driver’s license number
- Your Social Security Number
- A credit or debit card
Step 2: Request a duplicate driver’s license online
Step 3: Get your driver’s license in the mail
Your license will arrive through the mail within 20 business days. For more information, please see Central Issuance.
Track the delivery of your new card to see when it will arrive in the mail.

- Duplicate driver’s license fee: $30
- Refunds will not be given unless permitted under law

How to
Step 1: Print and complete the required form
Complete an application for duplicate of current driver's license or permit (Form 1-B).
Step 2: Make an appointment
When replacing a driver’s license in person, you’ll need to make an appointment at a DMV office.
You may also make an appointment at a DMV express office, such as select AAA locations or Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union locations (Milford | North Haven | Norwalk). Note: These locations may charge a convenience fee up to $8 per DMV transaction.

Step 3: Get your driver’s license in the mail
You will get a temporary license at your appointment. Your permanent driver’s license card will arrive through the mail.
Your new license will only be mailed to the mailing address on file with the DMV. If you have mail forwarding, you will NOT receive your new driver’s license.

How to
To request a duplicate driver’s license by mail:
- Complete a request for a Connecticut driver’s license/identification card by mail (Form B-350).
- Provide a check or money order for $30 made payable to “DMV,” or you can pay the fee by credit card over the phone (call 860-263-5700) or by email link if you provide one on the application.
- All checks must be drawn on a United States bank and made payable in United States funds.

Attention: Central Issuance Operations Unit - Your duplicate credential will be mailed directly to the address on file with the DMV and you will receive it within 20 days.
To request a duplicate driver’s license by email:
- Complete a request for a Connecticut driver’s license/identification card by mail (Form B-350)
- Email completed form(s) to: DMV.CIU@ct.gov
- To pay for your request, a link will be emailed to you within two business days.
- If there are any issues with your request, we will notify you via email.
- Your duplicate credential will be mailed directly to the address on file with the DMV and you will receive it within 20 days.
