Driving Record Requirements for Public Passenger Endorsement

What you need to know to apply for and maintain a PPE and acceptable driving record
Maintaining an acceptable driving record

Taxi, motor coach, bus, and other drivers who want to apply for or maintain a Public Passenger Endorsement (PPE), also known as a public service license, must have an acceptable driving record.

Certain motor vehicle violations temporarily disqualify you if you want to apply for or maintain a public passenger endorsement. Learn more about the different types of public passenger endorsements (S, V, A, or F).

Note:

If you have any combination of four driver violations (as outlined on this webpage) within in a two-year period, an endorsement will not be issued or will be withdrawn.

Criminal record checks required for public passenger endorsement

If you want a PPE, you are subject to state and national criminal record checks.

Your endorsement application or a current endorsement can be denied, suspended, or withdrawn if:

  • A conviction or arrest is found on your public records that’s considered a serious criminal offence.
  • Your state or national records reveal an offence that questions your moral character.
