• 6/28/2018 DEEP Updates State Parks Status Ahead of Holiday Weekend

  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that due to yesterday’s rain, four state park beaches are closed to swimming after testing positive for the presence of indicator bacteria. The four state park beaches that are closed, Rocky Neck State Park in Niantic, Gardner Lake State Park in Salem, Kettletown State Park in Southbury, and Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret, will be resampled today (Friday) with results due back on Saturday.

• 6/28/2018 Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police will be on the Lookout for Drunk and Impaired Boaters

  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) will be conducting heightened enforcement targeting boating under the influence as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign.

• 6/28/2018 Air Quality Alert: DEEP Forecasts Elevated Levels of Ozone for Connecticut Saturday June 30, 2018 through Monday July 2, 2018

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is forecasting a prolonged period of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) to Unhealthy (U) levels of ozone across Connecticut beginning Saturday June 30, 2018 and continuing through at least Monday July 2, 2018.

• 6/28/2018 Fourth-of-July Weekend Beachgoers Asked to “Fish, Swim, and Play from 50 Yards Away” of Bird Nesting Areas

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is asking the public to help protect birds that nest in coastal areas by staying at least 50 yards away from places where large concentrations of birds are gathered and avoiding areas that are roped off or marked with signs designating nesting locations.

• 6/25/2018 State Reports Positive Mosquitoes for West Nile Virus in New Canaan

  The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program (MMP) announced that mosquitoes trapped in New Canaan on June 19 tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV).

• 6/24/2018 Peak Tick Abundance and Increased Infection with Lyme Disease Reported Statewide

  The Tick Testing Program at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) is reporting peak tick abundance throughout the State at this time, and higher than average infection with Borrelia burgdoferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease.

  On June 20, 2018 the Connecticut State Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police received notification from Danbury Hospital that the victim from the boating accident on Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield yesterday afternoon had died.

• 6/19/2018 Gov. Malloy Signs Landmark Bills on Climate Change Resiliency and Renewable Energy

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today held a bill signing ceremony in Hartford to commemorate the final passage of two pieces of legislation he introduced that will further Connecticut’s role as a national leader in environmental protection and put the state on a more sustainable path by decreasing statewide greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the usage of renewable energy.

  On Tuesday, June 19, 2018 the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) responded to a residence on Winsted Road in Torrington, CT for a black bear that had entered a home through a screen window.

• 6/18/2018 Notice of Availability of FY2019 Funding Opportunity for Boating Infrastructure Grants

  The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has just been notified that the Department of Interior (DOI), US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is providing an annual round of Boating Infrastructure Grants for the FY 2019 season.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today signed an executive order directing the state’s Water Planning Council (WPC) to immediately implement the State Water Plan that was submitted to the Connecticut General Assembly in January 2018.

• 6/12/2018 Gov. Malloy and DEEP Announce Selection of 250 MW of Renewable Energy Projects

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Robert Klee today announced that Connecticut has selected over 250 MW of clean and renewable energy projects as part of DEEP’s recent Clean Energy Request for Proposals.

• 6/12/2018 Gov. Malloy and AG Jepsen Announce Connecticut Wins Smog Lawsuit Against Trump Administration

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that the State of Connecticut and the State of New York won their joint lawsuit in federal court against the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its administrator, Scott Pruitt, over the agency’s failure to adequately control ozone pollution from other states that negatively impacts air quality in the two downwind states.
