Conn. Leads $1.5M Settlement with Retailer Neiman Marcus over 2013 Data Breach
The Neiman Marcus Group LLC has agreed to pay $1.5 million and implement a number of policies to resolve an investigation with 43 states and the District of Columbia into the 2013 breach of customer payment card data at 77 Neiman Marcus stores in the United States, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull said today.

Conn. Leads Settlement with Career Education Corp., Will Bring $493.7M in Debt Relief for Students
For-profit education company Career Education Corp. (CEC) has agreed to reform its recruiting and enrollment practices and will forgo collecting approximately $493.7 million in debts owed by 179,529 students nationally through a settlement with 49 attorneys general, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

AG Jepsen Leads 50 States, District of Columbia, in $575M Settlement with Wells Fargo
Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that Wells Fargo Bank N.A. will pay $575 million to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws by (1) opening millions of unauthorized accounts and enrolling customers into online banking services without their knowledge or consent, (2) improperly referring customers for enrollment in third-party renters and life insurance policies, (3) improperly charging auto loan customers for force-placed and unnecessary collateral protection insurance, (4) failing to ensure that customers received refunds of unearned premiums on certain optional auto finance products, and (5) incorrectly charging customers for mortgage rate lock extension fees.

AG Jepsen: States Reach $68M Settlement with UBS for LIBOR Manipulation
Under a $68 million multistate settlement agreement, UBS AG will pay $64.6 million in restitution to government and nonprofit entities for its manipulation of benchmark interest rates in the lead up to and early days of the financial crisis, Attorney General George Jepsen announced today.

Conn. Initiates Lawsuit against Stamford-based Purdue Pharma, Executives and Board for Company's Role in Opioid Crisis
Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that the state has initiated a lawsuit against Stamford, Conn.-based Purdue Pharma L.P., Purdue Pharma Inc., and several current and former members of Purdue's management and board of directors alleging that they designed, financed and waged a pervasive and aggressive campaign to mislead doctors and patients, claiming that prescription opioid medications manufactured and marketed by the company were safe and effective and strategically downplaying risks of addiction that they knew were inherent in their opioid products.

Gov. Malloy and Attorney General Jepsen Announce Agreement with Travelers to Provide Supplemental Assistance to Crumbling Foundation Homeowners
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that the State of Connecticut has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Hartford-based Travelers Companies, Inc. to provide supplemental financial assistance to current and former Travelers policyholders who file claims and receive awards to remediate their crumbling concrete foundations through the state’s new captive insurance program.

Connecticut Joins $148M Settlement with Uber over Delayed Data Breach Reporting
Connecticut, with 49 other states and the District of Columbia, has reached an agreement with the San Francisco-based ride-sharing company Uber Technologies, Inc., to resolve the states' investigation into the company's one-year delay in reporting a data breach to the states and to its affected drivers, Attorney General George Jepsen announced today.

State Sues Florida-Based Compound Pharmacy, Former and Current State Employees, Alleging Illegal Kickback Scheme
The state has initiated a lawsuit alleging violations of the Connecticut False Claims Act orchestrated through a kickback pyramid scheme involving a Florida-based compounding pharmacy and several individuals, including former and current Connecticut state employees, whose prescription drug costs are covered by the taxpayer-funded Connecticut Pharmacy Benefit Plan, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.
