State Joins National Settlement with T-Mobile Over Data Cramming Allegations
Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) Commissioner William M. Rubenstein announced today that Connecticut, along with 49 other states and the District of Columbia, has reached a settlement with mobile telephone company T-Mobile USA to resolve allegations that the company improperly engaged in "data cramming."

Consumer Alert: AG Jepsen, DCP Advise Consumers with Delia's Gift Cards to Redeem Unused Balances Immediately
Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein are advising Connecticut residents who may be holding gift cards, certificates or store credits to the retail establishment Delia's to use their gift cards as soon as possible. The company recently filed bankruptcy and has announced plans to close its stores by early next year.

State Joins Multistate Settlement with PointRoll to Resolve Internet Privacy Allegations
Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein today announced that Connecticut has joined a $750,000 multistate settlement with digital advertising company PointRoll, Inc. that resolves an investigation into whether the company violated consumers' privacy by unlawfully circumventing the privacy settings in Apple Inc.'s Safari Web browser.

State Joins $3.8 Million Multistate Settlement with Sirius XM Radio
Attorney General George Jepsen and the state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein today announced that Connecticut has joined 44 other states in a $3.8 million settlement with Sirius XM Radio Inc. that resolves claims that the satellite radio company engaged in misleading advertising and billing practices.

"All CL&P customers will still experience a significant increase in their rates as a result of this decision, and I anticipate filling additional comments with PURA prior to its final decision later this month, as I believe these further reductions, and possibly additional reductions, are appropriate."

Attorney General, Office of Health Care Access Issue Proposed Final Decisions in Waterbury Hospital, Vanguard Application
The Connecticut Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Public Health Office of Health Care Access today issued their respective proposed final decisions on the application for a joint venture between the Greater Waterbury Health Network, Inc. and Vanguard Health Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare Corporation.

Scammers may be trying to cash in on fear from those who are currently concerned about the outbreak by either providing phony methods to prevent the virus or creating fake charities.

Connecticut Officials to FERC: Rehear and Investigate Protests to ISO-New England Auction Results
State officials have asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to grant a rehearing of a notice issued last month that allowed ISO-New England's eighth forward capacity auction (FCA 8) results to go into effect without any determination that the auction results were just, reasonable and free from the exercise of market power.

Rubenstein today announced an $850,000 multistate settlement with TD Bank, N.A. that resolves an investigation into a 2012 data breach that affected thousands of consumers and helps to ensure that protections are in place to help prevent future incidents.

State Officials Warn Connecticut Residents of IRS Phone Scam
The Department of Consumer Protection and Office of the Attorney General continue to receive complaints and inquiries from consumers worried about telephone calls in which the caller claims to be an official from the IRS and attempts to solicit tax payments.

Attorney General Jepsen Testifies in Support of Hospital Facility Fee Legislation
Attorney General George Jepsen today testified in support of legislation he authored seeking greater disclosure to patients of hospital facility fees. Over the last several months, he testified, nearly 70 complaints have been filed with his office from Connecticut patients who were surprised to learn that the medical services they received at a physician’s office had triggered a hospital facility fee.

AG Jepsen to FDA: End Bottleneck Preventing Generic Nexium from Entering the Market
In comments to a Citizen Petition filed with the Food and Drug Administration today, Attorney General George Jepsen called on the federal agency to expeditiously end several years of delays preventing the sale of a generic form of the drug esomeprazole magnesium, currently marketed under the brand name Nexium. Nexium is the second highest-selling pharmaceutical drug in the United States, and delays in approving generic versions have cost consumers and government healthcare payers billions of dollars.

State Files Federal Lawsuit against Alleged Mortgage Rescue Scam
Attorney General George Jepsen has obtained a temporary restraining order and appointment of a receiver in a joint lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida against Connecticut-based Resolution Law Group, Florida-based Berger Law Group, and related entities and individuals over allegations that they took advantage of struggling homeowners through a scam that promised legal assistance but delivered none.
