• Apply for an Alliance Grant

  Certified “Alliance Grant” districts that meet the requirements as defined in FORM SCG-1001 General Improvements to Alliance Districts’ School Buildings Grant Program Application Package, are eligible to submit applications for Alliance Grant funding.

• Apply for boiler, elevator, and escalator inspections and certifications

  In addition to the State Building Code, the Office of the State Building Inspector (OSBI) is responsible for the regulation of: elevators, escalators, etc. and boilers and hot water heaters.

• Apply for School Construction Grants

  The Office of Grants Administration is responsible for the grant administration of all Connecticut public school construction projects seeking authorization for a State grant commitment. The Office actively serves the 169 Connecticut municipalities, 17 Regional School Districts and 6 Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs) in the project application process.

• Audit Building and Fire Official Pre-Credential Training Programs for Continuing Education Credit

  For building code enforcement officials and fire officials who want to be retrained in a particular area, there are limited seats available in OEDM’s Pre-Licensure Training Program and Pre-Certification Training Program.

• Building and Fire Code Adoption Process

  The State Building Inspector, State Fire Marshal and the Codes and Standards Committee announced on December 29, 2016 intent to adopt the 2018 State Building and Fire Safety Codes based on the 2015 editions of the International Code Council (ICC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) documents.

• Building and Fire Code Modifications, Exemptions and Waivers

  The Office of the State Building Inspector and the Office of the State Fire Marshal review requests for modifications to the State Building Code and State Fire Safety Code, as well as the codes and regulations that apply to elevators and boilers etc.

• Code Training and Education Fees Assessed on Municipal Building Permits

  The legislature established a special fund that provides training specific to the State Building and Fire Codes. This fund is called the Code Education Fund, and is paid for by assessments on the construction value of local building permits.
