The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides cash assistance (reimbursement) for nutritious meals and snacks served to infants and children ages 12 and younger in licensed family or group day care homes. Reimbursement is based on the income level of the local geographic area, the child care provider, or the children in care. Family day care homes can be reimbursed for up to two meals and one snack, or one meal and two snacks per day for each child. To participate in the CACFP, day care providers must sign an agreement with a sponsoring organization. Connecticut has seven sponsoring organizations that administer the CACFP. Sponsors are responsible for recruiting, training, monitoring, and reimbursing day care providers. All meals and snacks must meet the requirements of the CACFP meal patterns for children and infants.
