Overview

Mastery-based learning is a complex approach to learning.  Implementing mastery-based learning in a school or school district will have an impact on most of the education systems from hiring, professional learning, instruction, assessment among others.  There isn’t any one right or better model at this point, so the best we can do is lay out the options for educators to make informed choice.  While there are no prescriptions or a single model, there are areas to be addressed for an effective implementation.  This section of the website is devoted to outlining the areas to include in any plan for mastery-based learning.  The flow chart below was developed by the Great Schools Partnership to help schools and school districts plan for implementation.
