Overview

On October 7, 2015, the Connecticut English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards were adopted by the Connecticut Board of Education. Beyond understanding common English usage, ELs need to understand the language used for grade-level instruction in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and other content areas. The standards highlight and amplify the critical language, knowledge about language, and skills for using language that are necessary for ELs to be successful in school.

Connecticut English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards

The Connecticut English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions will lead participants through two modules of professional learning on the newly adopted CELP Standards. Sessions are offered for ESL service providers and for general educators. Participants will leave the session/s with an increased understanding of the CELP Standards and how to use them in planning and practice.

Below are the resources used during the CELP TOT sessions and that should be used to turnkey the training in districts. The resources are labeled/identified as ESL Service Providers Module 1, ESL Service Providers Module 2, General Educators Module 1 and General Educators Module 2.

For each session and module, a presentation and resources are provided. Please note that these materials are intended to be used by professionals that have attended the CELP ESL Service Providers or General Educators TOT session in order to turnkey the training in their districts. These presentations and materials SHOULD NOT be used without first attending a CELP TOT session.
