2019 Distinguished Managerial Service Awards

The Distinguished Managerial Service Award program, originally established by the Department of Administrative Services upon the recommendation of the Management Advisory Council, is now solely sponsored by the council.  Nominations are solicited annually from State managers for the service award.  Any individual or organization may nominate a current or former Connecticut state manager, including retirees.  The Distinguished Managerial Service Award program presents an excellent opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of State managers.  Awards are presented at State Managers Day, which is held annually in the Fall.

Nominations

A Distinguished Managerial Service Award Selection Committee is established annually by the Management Advisory Council to review nominations and recommend awards.  Members of the Awards Committee include representatives of state managers and the private sector. Nominations are submitted to the Committee during the later months of summer.

The selection criteria are:

  • The nominee’s service to his/her agency
  • The nominee’s service to the people served by the agency
  • The nominee’s record of career growth and development
  • Volunteer services performed by the nominee
  • Any additional information the nominator believes is important

Nominations may be made using some or all of the criteria listed above.  Managers may be nominated for distinguished service or accomplishments taking place within a limited period of time, such as a special or major project, as well as for consistently distinguished service over a longer period of career service within state government.

There is no set formula given to any of the criteria.  The Awards Committee will examine each nomination on its merits.  It is recommended that each nominator make his/her nomination as complete as possible.

Review by the Awards Committee

When the Awards Committee receives a nomination, they contact the nominee and request a copy of his/her curriculum vitae.  In addition, the Committee will advise the nominee’s agency head as a matter of courtesy.
