The Council of State Governments is a multibranch organization that:
- forecasts policy trends for the community of states, commonwealths and territories;
- alerts state elected and appointed officials to emerging social, economic and political trends;
- offers innovative state policy responses to rapidly changing conditions;
- advocates multistate problem-solving to maximize resources and competitiveness;
- promotes excellence in decision-making and leadership skills; and
- champions state sovereignty.
This library is a free community resource to be shared and contributed to by users and readers across the world. The overall goal of the library is to provide leaders and managers (especially those with very limited resources) basic and practical information about personal, professional and organizational development.
An independent element of the Pew Research Center, based in Washington, DC. In addition to online news gathering activities, periodically publishes printed reference materials that are free for the asking, including a State of the States report released every January. Funded entirely by The Pew Charitable Trusts as a public service, Stateline.org has published online every weekday except holidays since Jan. 25, 1999.
