Human Services Transportation Programs
Human service transportation includes a broad range of transportation service options designed to meet the needs of transportation disadvantaged populations including older adults, disabled persons and/or those with lower income. Individuals have different needs and may require a set of different services depending on their abilities, their environment, and the options available in their community.  Examples may include dial-a-ride (responding to individual door-to-door transportation requests), the use of bus tokens and/or transit passes for fixed route scheduled services, accessing taxi vouchers and/or mileage reimbursement to volunteers or program participants.

Locally Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan

The Connecticut Department of Transportation in cooperation with regional planning organizations across the state has developed a community planning process for Federal Transit Administration (FTA)-funded transportation of older adults (60+), persons with disabilities and individuals with low incomes.  This plan is used to determine how those funds will be spent in Connecticut and is developed through a process that includes representatives of public, private and nonprofit human services transportation providers and participation by the public. At this time the process only covers the three FTA-funded programs described below.  For more information, please see our Frequently Asked Questions 2011, our Coordinated Plan and the 2009 Coordinated Plan Update.
