Certification and Training For Solid Waste Facility Operators

All March and April previously scheduled classes have been cancelled due to COVID-19. Operators who are currently certified no longer need to re-attend the certification class for a renewal Certificate. For renewals, simply submit an application within 6 months of your expiration date on your Certificate. New operators who have never been certified must submit an application, attend one of the listed certification classes and pass either a written or verbal examination. 

Sections 22a-209-6 and 22a-231-1 of the Connecticut Solid Waste Management Regulations requires the certification and training for operators of all solid waste facilities that are permitted or authorized by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Operators of Connecticut landfills, transfer stations, volume reduction facilities, resources recovery facilities, recycling facilities (MRFs/IPCs) and general permitted facilities may attend training classes and take an examination to obtain DEEP certification. A certification application form must be completed and an operator must pre-register to attend any currently scheduled training class.  For further information, email Carey L. * NOTE:  These classes are for operators of Connecticut transfer stations, volume reduction facilities, recycling facilities (MRFs/IPCs) and facilities authorized under a general permit.  Classes for operators of landfills, resources recovery facilities (RRFs) and special waste facilities are NOT posted on-line, but are rather scheduled individually as requested/needed.  Please contact Carey L.
