Grants

Highlights:

  • Approximately $2 million in grants to properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places
  • Funds awarded to municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and homeowners

The SHPO developed its Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Assistance Grant program to assist owners of historic properties that were damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Funded by a grant from the National Park Service’s Emergency Supplemental Historic Preservation Fund, the program was open to owners of properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places (or those determined eligible for listing). After two rounds of applications, the SHPO awarded grants for the repair and rehabilitation of the properties described below. Subgrantees agreed to rehabilitate their properties according to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties and agreed to a preservation easement, held by the SHPO, on the property.
