GOV. MALLOY ORDERS FLAGS LOWERED IN HONOR OF CONNECTICUT ARMY NATIONAL GUARDSMAN KILLED TODAY IN MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy this afternoon directed U.S. and state flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the Connecticut National Guard member who died in a motor vehicle accident earlier today while on a routine transport of training material. The Governor and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman issued the following joint statement:

"The men and women of the National Guard provide an invaluable service to our state and our country - they are extraordinary ambassadors for Connecticut and the United States. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of all of those involved in today's accident. We join the Connecticut National Guard in mourning the loss of one of our brave soldiers, and our prayers for a quick and full recovery go out to the soldier who was injured."

The Connecticut National Guard will identify the victim pending notification of the family.

Flags will remain at half-staff until services are held, the date of which has not yet been determined.
