LT. GOVERNOR WYMAN ATTENDING NATIONAL LT. GOVERNORS

ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE IN IOWA

Bipartisan Session Focusing on Economy, Health Care,

Education and Energy

( HARTFORD, CT) Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman is attending the 3-day National Lt. Governors Association Executive Board Conference this week in Des Moines, Iowa, where she will discuss a wide range of issues focusing on the economy, jobs, health care and energy.

Wyman said she was particularly interested in discussions regarding jobs and workforce development, and specifically how to better train students for careers in emerging technical fields. Preparing students for those jobs is a major focus of the Malloy/Wyman administration's education-reform plan.

"Jobs based in science, technology, engineering and math are projected to be the fastest-growing occupations over the next decade," Wyman said. "I'm looking forward to hearing about successful technical-training programs for both students and faculty in other states and how we can apply that success to Connecticut."

Other topics to be addressed at the conference include:

· Opportunities for trade assistance for Connecticut's small businesses

· Efforts to lower health care costs and improve public health and wellness

· Strategic national energy policy

· Innovations in food production and security

The conference is being held at the Des Moines Marriot hotel and runs from Dec. 3 - 5.
