CT Department of Education Statement on Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and Dalio Education Announcement of New Social and Emotional Learning Course to Support School Staff
(Hartford) - The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) released the following statement of support regarding today’s announcement of the new Social and Emotional Learning in Times of Uncertainty and Stress: Research-Based Strategies course developed by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, in collaboration with Dalio Education, CSDE, the American Federation of Teachers - Connecticut, the Connecticut Education Association, and the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents:
“Our readiness this fall to tackle Connecticut’s educational emergency revolves around having in place the social emotional learning and mental health supports necessary to create compassionate academic spaces anytime, anywhere. As our nearly 100,000 teachers and school staff prepare to resume classes next month, it’s critical that they are equipped with the tools to not only understand and manage their own emotional response to the pandemic but help their students navigate those complex feelings as well.
“We are proud to join with partners from across the state and national PK-12 spectrum to announce earlier today that Dalio Education Initiatives is sponsoring any school staff in Connecticut to attend, for free, a course from the Yale Center Emotional Intelligence to provide the necessary support to our dedicated educators so that they, and our entire educational ecosystem, are designed to widen the bandwidth of social emotional learning.
“Thank you to Barbara Dalio and Mark Brackett for bringing together this perfect combination of philanthropy and strategy that will reinforce our efforts to provide all students with equitable access to opportunities to thrive inside and outside of the classroom.”
