Fees must be submitted with asbestos abatement notification and proposed alternative work practices. A fee shall also be assessed for each reinspection concerning an asbestos abatement activity determined to be in non-compliance with asbestos regulation. Abatement involving up to 10 LF or 25 SF – no filing necessary, still defined as “project”.
The State of Connecticut assesses a fee for each of the following activities:
ASBESTOS ABATEMENT ACTIVITY | Fees |
|
$100.00 |
|
$100.00 plus one percent of the total abatement cost (excluding reinsulation) up to a maximum of $5,000.00 |
3. Notification of demolition | $50.00 |
4. Alternative work practice application | $200.00 |
5. Compliance reinspections | $100.00 |

- SUBMISSION OF NOTIFICATIONS
- Original asbestos notifications must be postmarked or hand delivered ten (10) days prior to the start of asbestos abatement. For projects in facilities governed by the US EPA National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP, 40 CFR, Part 6, Subpart M) the owner or operator must file notification ten working days prior to the start of abatement or demolition except in the case of an emergency. Please see guidance regarding emergency notifications.
- All notifications must be submitted on the prescribed form. Notifications received on individual company formats will be considered invalid and returned.
POLICY CONCERNING ASBESTOS ABATEMENT REVISIONS
If the amount of asbestos to be abated as indicated on the originally submitted notification is increased such that the total amount of asbestos will equal or exceed one hundred sixty (160) square feet, a revised notification must be submitted with payment of one percent of the total abatement cost.
If the amount of asbestos to be abated as indicated on the originally submitted notification equalled or exceeded one-hundred-sixty (160) square feet, a revised notification with an additional fee for one percent of the increased abatement cost up to a maximum fee of $5,000 must be submitted.
METHOD OF PAYMENT
No cash fees will be accepted.
All checks should be made payable to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut".

Note: To obtain square feet from linear feet, you must take the amount of linear feet and multiply it by the conversion factor for the pipe diameter. The end result is square feet. The diameter is based on the outside diameter with insulation.
Example: 35 linear feet of 3" diameter pipe.
- The conversion factor for 3" pipe is .79
- Take 35 linear feet X .79 = 27.65 square feet.
