Traffic Engineering Operations

The Operations Unit of the Division of Traffic Engineering works closely with Local Traffic Authorities (LTAs) and elected officials, and assists in supporting the Office of the State Traffic Administration (OSTA), as well as the Office of Maintenance and District Traffic Engineers regarding existing traffic engineering operations on our state highways.  This includes investigation of traffic control devices, providing policy guidance, and offering solutions to traffic engineering operations issues.

Traffic Engineering Lead Responsibilities include:

  • Perform High Frequency Crash Location (HFCL) investigations
  • Review and provide recommendations for OSTA major traffic generator impacts
  • Provide technical support to the Office of Maintenance
  • Perform investigations when requested by LTA/Municipal traffic investigations
  • Review and provide responses to public inquiries and Legislative Office requests
  • Provide Planning Corridor Study technical support
  • Program projects as needed for MUTCD compliance
