Amtrak Schedule Change May Impact Some Shore Line East Passengers
Shore Line East customers who board Amtrak trains with their Shore Line East ticket from time to time may be impacted by upcoming Amtrak schedule changes.
Amtrak accepts (i.e., “cross-honors”) Shore Line East multi-ride tickets for only the select Amtrak trains listed on the SLE schedule. Multi-ride tickets are defined as Shore Line East Monthly, Ten-Trip, Ten-Trip UniRail, or Monthly UniRail tickets, but NOT single ride tickets. One-way tickets on Amtrak Cross-Honoring trains will be charged the full one-way Amtrak fare. Only tickets for travel between New Haven-Old Saybrook, New Haven-New London, and Old Saybrook-New London are accepted.
Please be aware that Shore Line East multi-ride tickets are non-transferable and only valid for 45 days from purchase date to use on Amtrak trains. Also, Amtrak trains do not make all Shore Line East station stops. Refer to the Shore Line East schedule or the online trip planner at shorelineeast.com to see Amtrak times and stops.
Effective Monday, March 16th, Amtrak will discontinue Acela train #2151, previously scheduled to arrive at New Haven Union Station at 7:02 am, on Fridays. This train will no longer operate between Boston and New York City on Fridays. Shore Line East customers that used Amtrak train #2151 on Fridays are encouraged to utilize the following trains instead:
- SLE #1633 departing New London 5:43 am
- SLE #1641 departing New London 6:50 am
- Amtrak #95 departing New London 7:43 am (3 minutes earlier with this schedule change)
Acela #2151 will continue operating Monday through Thursday, and Amtrak will continue to accept Shore Line East multi-ride tickets on this train.
Amtrak is also making some minor adjustments to other trains with this schedule change, including an increase in the number of trains serving Mystic and Westerly, RI.
The Amtrak schedule change takes effect March 16, 2020 and Shore Line East will have additional minor schedule changes effective March 30, 2020. A new reprint of the Shore Line East schedule will incorporate all the changes.
