LED Traffic Signal Relamping in Various Connecticut Towns
The Department of Transportation (Department) is developing projects to replace LED traffic signal lamps at state-owned traffic signals located at approximately 775 state road intersections in various towns throughout Connecticut.
The existing LED traffic signal lamps have a life expectancy of approximately 8 years. These projects will proactively replace lamps in order to keep traffic signals functioning in a state of good repair. Where applicable, these projects will also replace circular red LED lamps with red arrow LED lamps at locations that are not currently in compliance with current design requirements, and will also replace circular green LED lamps with vertical green arrow LED lamps at applicable exit ramps to provide additional emphasis and countermeasures against wrong way driving maneuvers. Existing backplates and span-mounted signs will also be replaced.
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary.
For Project 0171-0458, design activities are expected to be completed in May 2020 with a tentative advertising date for construction of August 2020. For Project 0171-0449, design activities are expected to be completed in June 2020 with a tentative advertising date for construction of September 2020.
