Weeknight Off-Peak I-95 Lane Closures Near Exit 9 in Stamford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing weeknight off-peak lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound in the vicinity of Exit 9 in Stamford, beginning on or about March 25, 2019. The lane closures are necessary to facilitate asbestos abatement, lead paint removal and guano abatement prior to the demolition of the bridge spans later this summer.

The project involves the replacement of Bridge 00037, carrying Route 1 over I-95 in Stamford. The bridge was built in 1958 and is located at Exit 9 just north of the intersection of Route 106 (Courtland Avenue) and just south of the intersection with Seaview Avenue. Both east and west spans of the new bridge superstructure will be constructed off-line in the infield area of the I-95 northbound Exit 9 on-ramp. The existing spans will be removed by means of demolition-in-place. When fabrication is completed of the new east and west spans, they will be lifted and set in place on their piers and abutments using SPMT’s (Self Propelled Modular Trailer) during two weekend closures and diversions of I-95 and Route 1. One span will be removed and replaced per weekend closure. The reconstruction of the bridge will also require temporary bypass work for the utilities that are currently occupying the bridge.

DOT Project No. 0135-0325 was awarded to O&G Industries Inc. of Torrington CT, for $14,871,223.76  with an official start date of June 1, 2018, and is anticipated to be completed in November 2019.
