Washington Avenue Traffic Signal System Replacement in Bridgeport

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of the Washington Avenue traffic signal system replacement project, beginning on or about April 1, 2019, in Bridgeport.

The project consists of the replacement of the antiquated traffic signal equipment with new equipment and interconnections at five intersections on Washington Avenue - Catherine Street, James Street, Pequannock Street/Lafayette, Coleman Street and Highland Avenue.

The contract was awarded to A. M. Rizzo Electrical Contractors, Inc. of Danbury on October 25, 2018, at a cost of $1,999,984.00 and is scheduled for completion on November 8, 2019.

Route 8 Southbound On-Ramp and Route 25 Southbound On-Ramp during the following hours:
  • Monday through Friday between 7:00 pm to 7:00 am
All other Roadways:
  • Monday through Friday between 6:00 pm to 7:00 am
  • Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 pm to 9:00 am

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
