Scheduled Closure of West Street in Middletown to Facilitate Bridge Replacement Activities
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure of the portion of West Street over the Providence and Worcester Railroad in Middletown from April 1, 2019, to November 29, 2019. The closure is necessary to facilitate the replacement of Bridge 03993 carrying West Street over the Providence and Worcester Railroad. A detour will be put in place for the duration of the bridge closure.
The existing structure consists of a four-span solid timber bridge that has been determined to be structurally and functionally obsolete. The existing bridge will be replaced with a 27-foot clear span three-sided precast concrete rigid frame supported on reinforced concrete pedestal walls that are founded on reinforced concrete spread footings. Water and sewer utilities will be relocated as part of the project.
DOT Project No. 0082-0305 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. at a cost of $5,353,840.75 on September 5, 2018 and is scheduled to be completed November 29, 2019.
DETOUR INFO
The detour will direct motorists from West Street to Middlefield Street, Forest Street and Wadsworth Street. A temporary shuttle service for transporting pedestrians and bicyclists around the closed portion of West Street will be provided seven days a week from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM while the bridge is closed.
