Scheduled Closure of Route 14A over Cedar Swamp Brook in Sterling for a Period of Eight Weeks
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure of Route 14A over Cedar Swamp Brook in Sterling for a period of 8 weeks beginning on September 26, 2019. The closure and detour of traffic is necessary to facilitate construction activities associated with the replacement of Bridge 02132 which carries Route 14A over Cedar Swamp Brook.
Route 14A, just east of Church Street, will be detoured while the demolition and construction of the new bridge is performed. The roadway will reopen to traffic on or about November 21, 2019.
The project consists of replacing the original bridge built in 1928 with a new three-sided precast arch. The arch will be placed on top of new footings supported by micropiles. Additional drainage will be added on the north and south side of the bridge. Approximately 400 feet of full depth reconstruction of the roadway will be performed adjacent to the bridge.
Detour Plan
Route 14A East: Proceed on Route 14A west to the intersection of Interstate 395. Take the ramp to Interstate 395 northbound and proceed to Exit 32. Proceed east on Route 14 towards the intersection of Route 14A.
Route 14A West: Proceed on Route 14A east to the intersection of Route 14. Proceed west on Route 14 to the intersection of Interstate 395. Take the ramp to Interstate 395 Southbound and proceed to Exit 29. Proceed east on Route 14A.
Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
DOT Project No. 0136-0072 was awarded to Mattern Construction Inc. at a cost of $1,413,472.00 on April 9, 2019 and is scheduled to be completed by November 29, 2019.
