Safety Improvements, Bridge Rehabilitation and Resurfacing on Interstate 84 Eastbound and Westbound in Newtown

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that temporary traffic shifts associated with safety improvements and resurfacing on Interstate 84 eastbound and westbound in the vicinity of Exit 9 through Exit 10, are scheduled to begin on or about Monday, February 11, 2019, weather permitting.

The project consists of bridge rehabilitations on the following structures: 00897, 00898, 00505, 01206, 01207, 01208, 01210, 01211, 01212, 01213, and 01214 and safety improvements on Interstate 84 eastbound and westbound in Newtown. The construction will be between Exit 9 and Exit 10 and all ramps in that area on Interstate 84. Motorists should expect lane shifts and lane closures during operations and should also anticipate impacts on vehicular traffic flow through this area.

DOT Project no. 0096-0200 was awarded to Waters Construction Co. Inc. at a cost of $23,737,867.49 on January 3, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed November 4, 2020.

LANE CLOSURE INFO
This project will require multiple stages for construction operations. A majority of traffic impacts involving construction operations will be completed during night work operations, Monday through Thursday 8:00pm to 5:00am, Friday 9:00pm to 6:00am, Saturday 8:00pm to 7:00am and Sunday from 10:00pm to 5:00am on Interstate 84 in the westbound direction.

 On Interstate I-84 eastbound night work hours are Monday through Wednesday 9:00pm to 6:00am, Thursday through Friday 10:00pm to 6:00am, Saturday 10:00pm to 8:00am and Sunday from 10:00pm to 6:00am. The construction operations may detour one ramp at a time for either Exit 9 and Exit 10 on-ramps or off-ramps between the hours of 10:00 PM until 5:00 AM Sunday through Saturday.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
