Replacement of Bridge 06676, Route 1 Over Unnamed Brook in East Lyme
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a bridge replacement project will begin on August 12, 2019, on Route 1 over an unnamed brook in East Lyme near Heritage Road.
The project consists of replacing the existing corrugated metal pipe arch culvert built in 1982 with a new precast concrete box culvert. Approximately 200 feet of full depth reconstruction of the roadway will be performed adjacent to the bridge. An existing sanitary sewer line will also be relocated to the south of the bridge.
DOT Project No. 0044-0157 was awarded to New England Infrastructure Inc. at a cost of $1,348,154.00 on June 13, 2019 and is scheduled to be completed by November 24, 2019.
Lane Closure and Detour Information
Motorists can expect periodic lane closures starting August 12, through September 4, on Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 3 PM.
Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.
Alternating one-way traffic will start September 4, 2019, and will last through October 13, 2019. Traffic will be controlled with a temporary traffic signal.
Route 1, just east of Heritage Road, will be detoured while the demolition and construction of the new bridge is performed. The detour will occur for a fourteen day period between October 14, 2019, and October 27, 2019.
Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
Detour Plan
Route 1 South: Proceed on Route 161 to the intersection of Interstate 95. Take the ramp to Interstate 95 southbound and proceed to Exit 70.
Route 1 North: Proceed on Interstate 95 to Exit 74. Turn left at the off ramp onto Route 161 northbound.
