Public Information Meeting Scheduled for Proposed Roundabout at the Intersection of Fenn Road and Ella Grasso Boulevard in Newington

The Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Management Unit will be holding a public information meeting regarding the proposed roundabout at the intersection of Fenn Road and Ella Grasso Boulevard in Newington. The meeting will be held on Tuesday October 15, 2019, in the Newington Senior & Disabled Center Auditorium; 120 Cedar Street, Newington, CT 06111.  A design presentation will start at 7:00 p.m. and a question and answer period immediately following.

A conceptual design is proposed to convert the signalized intersection of Fenn Road (SR505), Ella Grasso Boulevard (SR505) and Holly Drive into a modern roundabout. This intersection currently experiences high levels of daily congestion, especially during the peak commute hours. Construction of a roundabout will provide significant congestion relief, and will reduce the likelihood and severity of angle (or T-type) crashes that have been prevalent at this intersection.

This project is currently in the conceptual design stage.  No funding source or project schedule has been assigned at this time.  The estimated construction cost for the state designed project is approximately $4 million.

The public information meeting is being held to offer a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning the proposed roundabout at the Intersection of Fenn Road and Ella Grasso Boulevard.

The meeting facility is ADA accessible.  Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109.  Requests should be made at least five (5) Business days prior to the meeting.  Persons having a hearing and/or speech disability may dial 711 for Telecommunications  Relay Service (TRS) and instruct the operator to contact (860) 594-2243. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.

More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to discuss the project may contact Ms. Marissa L. Washburn, P.E. at (860) 594-3358 or by e-mail at Marissa.Washburn@ct.gov.
