Proposed Upgrades to Roundabout at Route 162 and 705 (Ocean Avenue) in West Haven

The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (Department) Office of Engineering is developing plans to improve the existing roundabout at Route 162 and SR 705 (Ocean Avenue) in the West Haven.

The purpose of the project is to upgrade the existing roundabout to current design standards. This project includes work to upgrade the roundabout to accommodate larger trucks.  The roundabout has required constant maintenance in recent years and will be upgraded with more durable materials.

The project scope is limited to curbing replacement, concrete stamping within the intersection, and repaving.  Due to the limited scope and maintenance-nature of the work, it is not anticipated that a formal public informational meeting will be necessary for this project.

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in December 2019 with construction anticipated to start in summer 2020, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits.  This project will be undertaken with state funds.

Anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Matthew R. Vail, P.E., Principal Engineer, at (860) 594-3274 or by e-mail at Matthew.Vail@ct.gov.  Please make reference to State Project No. 0156-0182.
