Intersection Improvements at Route 34 and Baldwin Road and Computerized Traffic Signal System Upgrade in Orange and Derby

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of work for intersection improvements at Route 34 and Baldwin Road and also a computerized traffic signal system upgrade starting April 1, 2019, in Orange and Derby.

The project consists of new traffic signal at Route 34 and Baldwin Road to improve safety, the replacement of traffic signal cabinets between the intersections Route 34 at Derby Avenue and Route  34 at Racebrook Road and Birchwood. The work will start on or about April 1, 2019.

The contract was awarded to Waters Construction Company, Inc. of Bridgeport on November 14, 2018, at a cost of $1,393,903.30 and is scheduled for completion on October 25, 2019.

The contractor will be allowed to work on Route 34(Derby Turnpike) during the following hours:
  • Monday through Friday between 8:00 pm to 6:00 am
  • Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 pm to 10:00 am
Baldwin Road & All other Roadways:
  • Monday through Friday between 9:00 am to 3:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 6:00 am
  • Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 pm to 10:00 am
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
