Replacement of Bridge 02507, Route 82 over Hungerford Brook, and Bridge 02506, Route 82 over Hemlock Valley Brook in East Haddam
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the project for the Replacement of Bridge 02507, Route 82 over Hungerford Brook, and bridge 02506, Route 82 over Hemlock Valley Brook in the Town of East Haddam will begin April 1, 2017.
The project is necessary to correct the structural deficiencies of the existing bridges which are in poor condition.  Additionally, the bridges are functionally-obsolete and are considered hydraulically deficient as based on the 100-year design storm frequency.
Bridge work includes the replacement of the existing structures with new single-span pre-stressed precast concrete deck unit superstructures, supported on concrete cantilever abutments and spread footings.  Cast-in-place concrete wing walls and bridge parapets will also be constructed.
The proposed roadway at the Route 82 over Hungerford Brook location will support two 11-foot lanes and two 5-foot shoulders.  The proposed roadway at the Route 82 over Hemlock Valley Brook location will support two 11-foot lanes and two 8-foot shoulders.
The contract was awarded to Tully Construction Corporation of Southbridge, Massachusetts at a cost of $3,164,035.31 on February 22, 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2018.
