Moveable Bridge Control Upgrades for Bridge 06026, Route 156 over the Niantic River

The CTDOT is announcing the start of work to replace and upgrade the existing bridge controls for moveable bridge number 06026, Route 156 over the Niantic River in East Lyme and Waterford.
It was determined that the existing 25-year old bridge control system needed replacement, due to its antiquated condition, recent failure and the inability to locate and procure replacement parts. The new control system will incorporate an auxiliary drive backup system. In addition, the existing traffic gates will be replaced in kind, to facilitate a future comprehensive project.
The work has been communicated to the United States Coast Guard, who has granted the Department a temporary deviation from the normal bridge operations. There will be no bridge openings from September 11, 2017,  through September 14, 2017 to facilitate this work.
DOT Project No. 0044-158 was awarded to Cianbro Corporation at a cost of $600.000 on May 23, 2017, and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2017.
