Installation of Centerline and Shoulder Rumble Strips in Various Towns
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the commencement of night and day work for the installation of rumble strips on highway shoulders and centerlines on various roads in various towns beginning June 13, 2017.

The project consists of the installation of centerline rumble strips on State and locally owned roadways and shoulder rumble strips on limited access highways. Rumble strips are a proven safety countermeasure and will minimize the number of lane departure crashes. The rumble strips will alert drivers through noise and vibration should their vehicle veer off into an opposing lane of traffic.
The project covers the following areas:
State Routes:
  • Route 17 - Glastonbury
  • Route 72 – Plainville
State Routes and Local Roads:
  • Route 74 - Willington
  • Route 194 - South Windsor
  • Brook Street - Rocky Hill
  • West Queen Street – Southington
  • Long Swamp Road – Wolcott
  • Woodtick Road - Wolcott
DOT Project No. 0048-0197 was awarded to Surface Preparation Technologies, LLC at a cost of $100,574.62 on April 26, 2017 and is scheduled to be completed on August 8, 2017.
LANE CLOSURE INFO-
This work will be performed utilizing a moving operation with intermittent closures of lanes and portions of ramps to complete the work.  Please use caution around this operation as these vehicles will be moving slower than posted speeds and when possible move over to provide them a buffer lane during work activity.
Route 17 and Route 72:  Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM; and Saturday and Sunday, all day.
State Routes and Local Roads:  Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM; and Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 PM to 10:00 AM.
