Bridge Replacement in Branford, Route 139 over Branford River

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction activities have begun for the bridge replacement on Route 139 over the Branford River in Branford.
The project consists of the replacement of the structure as well as the relocation of existing utilities in the vicinity of Bridge 1358 (Route 139 over the Branford River). These utility relocations will be performed prior to and during the bridge replacement.  In order to expedite the bridge replacement, Route 139 will be closed to vehicular traffic from July 1, 2017 to November 30, 2017.  Detours will be in effect for all vehicular traffic during this period.  The bridge replacement will be complete by November 30, 2017 and minor construction activities will continue through the reminder of the project which is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2017.

Lane closures may be observed at various times during construction. A permanent road closure will be observed from July 1, 2017 to November 30, 2017 on Route 139. A 1.5 mile detour will be in effect during this period for vehicular traffic.  A 5.5 mile detour will be in effect during this period for truck traffic.  After November 30, 2017, Route 139 will be reopened to traffic and there may be  periodic lane closures.
