Route 58 to be Closed for Replacement of Bridge over Putnam Brook in Bethel

      The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the Route 58 bridge over Putnam Brook near the intersection of Sara’s Way in Bethel will be removed and replaced, requiring the closure of Route 58 beginning Friday, September 19, at 6 p.m. through Tuesday at 6 a.m. September 23, 2014.

      The project consists of removal of Bridge No. 02402 that carries Route 58, Putnam Park Road, over Putnam Brook in Bethel.  The work includes the removal of the existing stone masonry culvert, installation of a precast concrete box culvert and wing walls, along with new drainage and pavement.

      DOT Project No. 0009-0094 was awarded to Waters Construction Company from Bridgeport, CT at a cost of $ 772,766.00 on April 2, 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2014.  The project is being administered by the Department of Transportation Office of Construction, District 4 in Thomaston.

CLOSURE AND DETOUR INFO

      Both northbound and southbound lanes of Route 58 will be closed between Hoyts Hill Road and Sara’s Way from 6 p.m. Friday September 19 until 6 a.m. Tuesday September 23, 2014.

      Motorists will be detoured from Putnam Park Road (Route 58) at Milwaukee Avenue (Route 302) onto Glassy Plain Road/Redding Road (Route 53) to Hill Road/Lonetown Road (Route 107) and back onto Putnam Park Road (Route 58).  Detour signs will direct motorists around the closure.
