Rehabilitation of Salt Sheds in the Towns of Darien, Trumbull, Westport and Wilton
The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Office of Engineering is developing plans for the rehabilitation of existing salt sheds at 65 Brookside Drive in Darien, Route 111 Monroe Turnpike in Trumbull, 900 Post Road East in Westport and on Route 7 at Route 33 in Wilton. The main purpose of this project is to perform maintenance repairs to aging salt sheds.
The project involves replacing the existing roof shingles and performing other minor improvements. The replacement product will be a polyvinyl chloride membrane roof.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in September 2014, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2015.  This project will be undertaken with 100 percent state funds.
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community share its concern with us to assist in the project’s development.  At this time, it is not anticipated that a public information meeting will be necessary.  Anyone interested in receiving information on these projects may do so by contacting Mr. Theodore H. Nezames, Transportation Principal Engineer, at (860) 594-3298 or by e-mail at Theodore.Nezames@ct.gov. Please make reference to State Project No. 173-444.
