Plans Under Development for Mid-block Crosswalks on Route 137 (Washington Boulevard) between Tresser Boulevard and Broad Street  in Stamford
The  Connecticut  Department  of  Transportation's Office  of  Engineering  is developing plans to provide pedestrian access between the east and west sides of Route 137 by installing  High-intensity Activated crossWalK beacon (HAWK) systems at two  separate locations.  An existing crosswalk located on Route 137, just south of Bell Street, would be upgraded and the existing traffic signal would be replaced with the HAWK system. A new pedestrian  crosswalk  with  the  HAWK  system  is  also being  proposed  on  Route  137  for access between the Mill River Park on the west side and parking garages on the east side of the roadway.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in January 2015 , with construction anticipated to start in summer  2015. This project will be undertaken with  80% Federal and 20% State funds.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. It is not anticipated that an informational meeting or a formal public hearing will be held for this project due to the limited nature of the proposed work.
Anyone  interested in receiving information on  this   project   may  do so by contacting Mr. William W. Britnell, Principal Engineer of Highway Design, at (860) 594-3274, or by e-mail at William.Britnell@ct.gov. Please make reference to State Project Number 0135-0327.
