I-91/I-95 Traffic Shift in New Haven Completed Nearly 24 Hours
Ahead of Schedule

All travel lanes on I-95 Southbound, I-91 Southbound and Route 34 have been re-opened to traffic. Work scheduled to end at 6 a.m.Monday, October 20, was completed by 9:30 a.m. Sunday -- nearly 24 hours ahead of schedule.

The I-91 Southbound off-ramp to Route 34 Westbound has been relocated approximately a quarter mile north. The Route 34 Eastbound off-ramp to I-95 Southbound and the I-91 Southbound off-ramp to I-95 Southbound are also re-opened to traffic. The ramps are now located in their final alignment over five new bridges, culminating another milestone for the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program. Changes in the alignment are illustrated in before and after visualizations.

The Department commends the contractor, O&G/Tutor Perini Joint Venture for their efforts, as well as all the motorists in the Greater New Haven Area, for their patience, understanding and cooperation during this time.

To facilitate mobility through the work zone, motorists were assisted prior to and during the construction activities by advanced public notifications including: CTDOT Press Releases and ‘Construction Updates’ and ‘Construction News’ notices; statewide, municipal and public safety coordination; placement of advanced and additional highway signing; and the use of state police.

This segment of the project is one of a series of many traffic shifts as work progresses on the construction of the Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge, reconstruction of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange and other projects that are part of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program.
