Detour Required for Weekend Bridge Inspection on I-84 Westbound in Waterbury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today that a detour will be required on I-84 Westbound in Waterbury next month during a bridge inspection. Exit 19 to Route 8 Southbound will be closed from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015. In the event of inclement weather, the inspection will be performed and the ramp closed on Sunday, January 11, or on the weekend on January 24-25.

The work is part of the inspection of the Waterbury “stacks,” where I-84 and Route 8 connect.

Motorists needing to get to Route 8 Southbound from I-84 Westbound will be detoured onto Exit 18 (Highland Avenue), then to Chase Parkway and then onto Route 8. State Police and variable message signs will be in place to guide motorists.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
