Burnell Boulevard in Norwalk Closed To Traffic Beginning Tuesday, February 18, 2014;

Detour Required

      The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the closure of Burnell Boulevard between Belden Avenue and Main Street in Norwalk on Tuesday, February 18, 2014.  This closure is required to replace the span over the Norwalk River and a city parking lot.

      Burnell Boulevard between Belden Avenue and Main Street will be closed during the demolition and replacement phases for this project.   The closure is scheduled to occur Tuesday, February 18.  Modifications to the schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. 

      Potential Vibration and Noise

      Daytime construction activities that may create vibrations and/or noise will occur during the removal of the Burnell Boulevard Bridge and work over the Metro North Railroad.  The hours of activity are between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with nighttime activities, if necessary, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

DETOUR INFO:

      The bridge will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic during construction until the summer of 2015.  Motorists and pedestrians should follow the posted detour route around the bridge during this period of closure.

  • Vehicular traffic will be detoured around the bridge via Belden Avenue, U.S. Route 1 (Cross Street), Main Street, and Wall Street. 
  • Pedestrian traffic will be detoured along a much shorter route using River Street, Wall Street and Main Street.
