Connecticut DEEP Environmental Conservation Police Investigating Fatal Boating Accident in Long Island Sound

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection State Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) are investigating a fatal boating accident that occurred on Sunday, November 3, in Long Island Sound.

Four individuals were fishing from a vessel at about 9:45 a.m. in the vicinity of the Stratford Shaols (Middle Ground) Light Station when the vessel capsized. Bridgeport Police, Fairfield Police and the U.S. Coast Guard Eaton’s Neck responded to the scene.

The Coast Guard rescued from the water the following individuals: Jack Phommachanh, 65, from North Haven, Conn., and Bill Chanthavone, 66, and Thipada Ngaoluangrath, 67, both from Bridgeport, Conn. The three men were transported to Bridgeport Hospital and released. Bridgeport Police recovered a fourth man, Eul Lee, 64, from Fort Lee, NJ. Lee was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital.

Bridgeport Police, along with the Suffolk County Police (New York) and the U.S. Coast Guard, are assisting EnCon Police with the ongoing investigation.
