Community Fishing Waters
(Formerly Urban Fishing)
There are 15 lakes in Connecticut designated as Community Fishing Waters. These waters are stocked with trout in the early spring and channel catfish in late spring/early summer to provide a year-round fishery. All these waters are located along or close to public transportation routes to enhance fishing opportunities in urban neighborhoods. Be sure to visit one of the Community Fishing Waters near you!

The Community Fishing Waters Program (formerly Urban Fishing) was established to promote natural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities within urban neighborhoods. The Community Fishing Waters Program started in 2006 by the Inland Fisheries Division enhances fishing opportunities in Connecticut’s major population centers by stocking trout and channel catfish. Trout can typically provide a spring (and possibly) a fall fishery in these areas. To provide a second year-round fishery, channel catfish are stocked into these areas. By partnering with civic groups, municipal leaders and local citizens, the program also maximizes community involvement.
