State Drug Control Division Releases Guide for Prescribers

Guide about prescribing controlled substances now available to practitioners

Friday, March 13th, 2020 – The Department of Consumer Protection (DCP)’s Drug Control Division released a guide for practitioners with rules about prescribing controlled substances within the State of Connecticut.

State requirements have updated frequently in recent legislative sessions in an effort to combat the opioid crisis, and, DCP wants to ensure that the medical community has the resources they need to be in compliance.

“We work hard to make sure that our work is focused on compliance and education as much as possible,” said Rodrick Marriott, Director of the Drug Control Division at DCP, “It’s incredibly important that practitioners have the tools they need to be successful in this changing environment. I want to thank the medical community for their collaboration in making this project a reality.”

“We know there is no one solution to combatting the opioid crisis, but we plan to keep taking small steps forward to support practitioners and patients,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “A critical part of our mission is to communicate requirements to practitioners who prescribe controlled substances in order to help patients every day. I want to thank the medical community, our sister state agencies, the legislature, and all of the community-based organizations we work with for their continued dedication to this work.”

The Drug Control Division plans to keep this guide updated as requirements evolve. A copy of the guide can be found here.
