Consumer Protection Commissioner Issues Summary Suspension for Majestic Lounge in Hartford

Tuesday, February 18th, 2020 – Today, Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull issued a summary suspension for the Majestic Lounge (LIR.0019705) at 451 Franklin Avenue in Hartford.

 

The Department of Consumer Protection’s (DCP) Liquor Control Division received a letter from Interim Police Chief Jason Thody of the Hartford Police Department today detailing the incident, and requesting a suspension of the liquor permit saying:

 

“On Sunday February 16, 2020, at approximately 0127 hours, Hartford Police Officers working a “Hot Spot” detail in the area of the Majestic Lounge, located at 451 Franklin Avenue, reported hearing gunfire within the club. The officers immediately entered the business and located four people who had sustained gunshot wounds.

 

Shortly after the incident, a motor vehicle accident was reported in the area of 1254 Maple Avenue. One of the occupants of the vehicle involved was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds. It was determined that these injuries were sustained during the shooting incident that occurred inside the Majestic Lounge. All of the victims were transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.”

 

DCP’s Liquor Control Division has begun their investigation of this incident, and the establishment will remain closed under a summary suspension until further notice.

 

“First, our thoughts are with the friends and family of those killed and injured this weekend. We take violence in liquor establishments incredibly seriously, and work to ensure that liquor permitees in our state have processes in place to prevent it,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “I would like to thank the men and women of the Hartford Police Department for their cooperation and timely communication regarding this matter. Our partnership with law enforcement allows us to resolve these issues as effectively as possible, always keeping public health and safety as a priority. I look forward to resolving this issue quickly.”
