Consumer Protection Hosts 5th Annual Cross-Cultural Communications Symposium
Wednesday, May 29th 2019 – On Thursday, June 6th, The Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) will host their annual Cross-Cultural Communications Symposium: “Cross-Cultural Communications: Moving from Empathy to Action”.
This fifth annual symposium will offer guidance on how to best reframe traditional messages to achieve an organization’s goals. Attendees will learn about data driven messaging, how to best work with media, and how to measure the effectiveness of their programs. We know that good stories create empathy, but we don’t always create stories that drive people to action. This year’s symposium will help organizations understand how the right message can inspire people to take the next step.
Our keynote speaker is Moira O’Neil, Director of the Research Interpretation & Application at FrameWorks Institute. In this role, she leads FrameWorks’ efforts to interpret and share communications science with the nonprofit sector in order to more effectively develop action-driven messages that drive social change.
“Figuring out what messages move people to change their behavior is one of the most challenging parts of consumer outreach and education,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “Our goal at this year’s symposium is to help agencies and organizations reframe their messages to better motivate people. I am proud of the work we’ve done at these symposia in the past and how it has helped not just our Agency, but other governmental and non-profit organizations, more effectively reach a broader audience. I look forward to another great discussion in June.”
This symposium is free and open to the public. Attendees can learn more and register for the symposium by visiting DCP’s website here.
This all-day event will be held at the Connecticut Convention Center from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
