CONSUMER PROTECTION RELEASES GUIDE FOR CONSUMERS SEEKING TO HIRE HOMEMAKER COMPANIONS
Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 – Today the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) released a new fact sheet for consumers seeking to hire homemakers and companions. The fact sheet is meant to help families understand the process of working with homemaker companion agencies so they are able to make the best decisions possible for their specific needs.
“Hiring a homemaker companion can be a confusing process, but it’s incredibly important to do it right,” said Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “Families who need to hire a homemaker companion usually need to do it quickly, and have a lot to consider. We want to provide helpful information to these families to aid them in the process.”
Before you hire a homemaker companion, you should:
- Understand whether or not the agency you’re working with is operating as an employer or as a registry;
- Read your contract thoroughly, and ask any questions you have, especially regarding additional fees;
- Know the process for reporting a problem.
A copy of our fact sheet can be found here.
