Owner of Now-Closed New England Sheds Refunds Customers
Works with Department to Satisfy Outstanding Orders
The business halted deliveries last summer after closing due to competitive forces and unfortunate family events, according to the owner. During their review of consumer complaints, Department investigators, with the cooperation of Mr. Katras, worked through the list of outstanding orders and customer concerns. Ultimately, Mr. Katras refunded more than $33,000 to the 19 consumers who had been affected by the closing.
“The reality is that businesses fail for any variety of circumstances, but what they do during the winding down process, and how they go about it, may lead to significant scrutiny by the Department of Consumer Protection,” Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said today. “Here, business owner Demetrios Katras worked with us to make consumers whole, and we thank him for helping us to forge a positive resolution.”
While the Department believes that all affected customers of New England Sheds are being refunded, any customers who believe they still have an outstanding issue with New England Sheds should file a written complaint with the Department of Consumer Protection at dcp.frauds@ct.gov.
