Burlington, Harwinton Establishments Score 100% in Recent Liquor Compliance Check

HARTFORD, October 21 -- The Department of Consumer Protection is reporting that all Burlington / Harwinton establishments tested during a liquor compliance check it conducted this past weekend passed by not completing a sale of alcohol to a minor.

On Friday, October 18th, agents from the Liquor Control Division, a volunteer youth trained and provided by the Governor’s Prevention Partnership, and the Resident Trooper’s Office in Burlington conducted a compliance operation in which all package stores in the towns of Burlington and Harwinton were tested for compliance. All stores passed; no store sold to the minor.  The successful stores are:

  • The Liquor Lady, Harwinton
  • Tony's Drive-In Package Store, Harwinton
  • Village Spirits Shoppe, Burlington
  • Scotty's Spirit Shop, Burlington
  • Countryside Wine & Spirits, Burlington

“We congratulate the towns of Burlington and Harwinton for their perfect scores on this most recent compliance check,” Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said. “These ongoing, undercover compliance operations help us to identify licensed or permitted locations that are selling alcoholic beverages to minors and bring them into compliance with the law.”

The Governor’s Prevention Partnership trains volunteer youth who participate in the undercover operations. If the youth are asked their age before making a liquor purchase, they hand over their actual ID and tell their true age.

The Department works with local police departments and Resident Troopers across the state on an ongoing basis to routinely conduct these unannounced, undercover compliance checks to help prevent sales to minors.
