Searchable "SaferProducts.gov" Database Helps Consumers Report and Avoid Unsafe Consumer Products
SaferProducts.gov makes it easy to search for reported hazards
“This new website, www.SaferProducts.gov, is a powerful tool for consumers -- not only to get information about the safety of products that they own or may buy, but also to report unsafe products that they encounter,” Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said today. “It gives parents and consumers the ability to search for incidents involving a product they already own or are thinking of buying, and enables them to make independent decisions aimed at keeping their families safe.”
SaferProducts.gov was developed by the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) as part of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. Consumers, health care providers, child care agencies, product manufacturers and government agencies are encouraged to report harms or risks of harm from consumer products online. This timely information will help the CPSC identify product hazards quicker and provide consumers with safety information on products in and around the home.
CPSC reviews all online reports and transmits qualifying reports to the manufacturer for a response. If all requirements are met, the report and the manufacturer’s comments are posted on SaferProducts.gov for viewing by visitors to the site.
