Liquor Compliance Check in Fairfield Cite Premier Wine and Spirits and Stop and Shop for Alleged Sales to Minors

HARTFORD, March 23 – The Department of Consumer Protection is releasing the results of its most liquor compliance checks. On Saturday, March 19th, 2011 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Department Liquor Agents and officers from the Fairfield Police Department conducted compliance checks of all 19 package stores and grocery stores in Fairfield.  Two volunteer youths, both age 17 were provided by the Governor's Prevention Partnership for this effort. As a result of the compliance checks, two stores are being referred to the Liquor Control Commission for possible administrative action.


The stores are:

·         Super Stop and Shop, 1190 Kings Highway Cutoff, Fairfield

·         Premier Wine and Spirits, 525 Tunxis Hill Road, Fairfield

Late Saturday afternoon, when agents returned to the Premier Wine and Spirits to conduct a follow-up investigation, it is alleged that they interrupted the employee on duty actually selling alcoholic liquor to two youths, age 16 and 17. The Fairfield Police released the youths into the custody of their parents.

As a result of the compliance check and subsequent observations, Premier Wine and Spirits will face administrative charges of three counts of sale of alcoholic liquor to minors and the Super Stop and Shop will face one count of sale of alcoholic liquor to minor.  Both face administrative hearings before the Liquor Control Commission.
